Alder & Ash w/ viñu-vinu + Alexis Castrogiovanni

December 5, 2018 @ 8:00 pm - 11:00 pm

experimental/contemporary classical/indie

Alder & Ash
Alder & Ash plays a cinematic mix of minimal classical, doom metal and industrial on solo cello.

Echoes from Afar EP release show
Inspired by unknown far away lands and nature, the album colourful and gorgeously evocative soundscapes seek the fine line between ambient experimental textures and downtempo beats all applied in live electronic music performances. From this commitment to organic processes and spontaneity, emerge dreamlike sonic tapestries that develop naturally and let the listener’s mind drift between a state of consciousness and unconsciousness.

Alexis Castrogiovanni
Baritone sax, drums, and loops on the cello create repetition and textural, stripped-down landscapes, paired with lyrics that touch on topics like alcohol, jealousy, sex, spirit, and the search for love.

Alder & Ash

Alder & Ash is a counterpoint of two extremes. The music lies in stillness, introversion, and penitence. It lies in violence, cacophony, and angst. Alder & Ash plays cello with loop pedal to create improvised minimal classical music, with influence of doom metal, ambient, post-rock and noise.

viñu-vinu is the electronic music alias for Montreal-based pianist, keyboardist, composer and producer Gabriel Vinuela. The name viñu-vinu pays homage to Gabriel’s Chilean heritage and comes from the francization of his father’s last name: Viñuela to Vinuela. Gabriel works with synths, keys, field recordings and a wide array of sampling technics to produce atmospheric and lively instrumentals, where rich harmonies and melodies mix with textural electronic experimentations. viñu-vinu has performed live at La Nuit Blanche – Festival Montréal en Lumière and at the festival international de créativité numérique et de musique électronique Mutek in 2018.

Alexis Castrogiovanni

Montreal-based cellist and singer-songwriter, Castrogiovanni began writing during her undergraduate in orchestral cello performance as a rejection of her classical music education, refusing to play it safe and departing from the intellectual classical world to make emotional, personal, and “stupid-simple” music.
