ba:zel is the electroacoustic love child of Daniel Vlček and Ewelina Ai-fen Chiu, born on a whim when the two were near strangers back in 2014. The project features Ewelina on vocals, soprano ute, keyboard, and midi pedal and Daniel on bass guitar, beats, and synths. ba:zel is a precarious balance between startling fragility and massively dark undertones. Post-grime beats mingle with the neo-classical, connected by a soprano insidious to some, child-like and secretive to others.
The project has been variously labelled as “frosty minimalism” (BeeHype), “nightmare electro-pop” (AlterEcho),
“chilly art-hop” (RadioWave), and “music for sleep-deprived ravers” (180 a.m collective).
Forgotten in the woods again
Forgotten in the woods again is an experimental/post-rock/ambient band from Ottawa.
Guitarist – Scotty P
Keyboardist – Adriana Ciccone
Bassist – Greg Erickson
Mike Kelly – Drummer
Mike and Pat, bonding on a mutual love of music, began jamming in 2011; from the outset playing instrumental rock, and taking inspiration from post rock bands such as Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Russian Circles and This Will Destroy You. Since then, the duo has expanded, having jammed with a handful local musicians, and matured it’s sound. In the process. The band now includes Neil McLeod, who joined permanently as a second guitarist in 2014, and newly joined Zachary Perron of local post-rock duo Novusolis who filled the long vacant role of bassist in late-2016.
Patrick Lemieux, Zach Perron and Neil McLeod place emotive, brooding and occasionally catchy melodies in front of effect-ridden and atmospheric soundscapes, while Mike Kelly applies bombastic rock drumming to the onslaught of sound.
